Description, Philosophy, History

Norm Applebaum received a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1968 at Arizona State University, under the late Calvin Straub, FAIA, Architectural Professor of the University of Southern California nad Arizona State University Schools of Architecture. Applebaum discovered awareness and sensitivity to the client, the environment, and the importance of clean structural lines from this famous Arts and Architecture designer. As a student to architectural visionary Paolo Soleri, he learned about the philosophy of the Mega Structure as a way of living--a new nature and its significance to existence. Michael John Pittas, Dean of the Parson School of Design, stated that Applebaum is a designer of "masterworks of craftsmanship, detail and rama". An Applebaum home takes on a sculptural form as cantilevered roof lines, clerestory glass and transparent interiors come together. His eye for detail makes it possible to design more than the structure of the home, but indeed many other elements such as handcrafted furniture, ironwork, leaded glass doors and windows, to flatware, china and rugs.
