Description, Philosophy, History

In 41 years of practice, Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates (VSBA) has earned an international reputation as a world leader in architectural design and planning. The firm's experience ranges from city and campus planning, civic, commercial, and academic architecture to exhibition design and the decorative arts, but all of its projects share a fresh approach to complex and contradictory problems. Because the designs are generated from the specific imperatives and context of a project, VSBA's completed works have unique identities, derived from careful consideration of its clients' philosophies, traditions, programs, and site characteristics. VSBA's eye for careful detail and functional excellence are reflected through over 400 projects in the US, Europe, in Asia, including the Sainsbury Wing of the National Gallery in London; the Seattle Art Museum; a regional legislative and administrative center in Toulouse, France; and the Mielparque Nikko Kirifuri Hotel and Spa near Nikko, Japan. In addition, the firm has completed over 75 academic projects on 35 differents campuses, including campus and precinct plans, laboratories, campus centers, libraries, museums, performance spaces, residence halls, and athletic facilities. VSBA's clients include Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, UCLA, Bard, and the Unviersities of Michigan, Ohio State, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania.
